Ibiza is synonymous with crystal-clear water and Posidonia Oceanica meadows declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Beneath the surface lie marine reserves such as Es Freus and the north-eastern coast of Tagomago, islets like Es Vedrà and legendary wrecks such as the Don Pedro, the largest in the Balearics. With visibility exceeding 30 metres and centres spread across Sant Antoni, Santa Eulària and Sant Josep, it suits a first try dive as well as demanding divers.
Ibiza's waters rank among the cleanest in the Mediterranean, with visibility often exceeding 30 metres thanks to the vast Posidonia Oceanica meadows, an ancient living organism declared a World Heritage Site. The island combines contemplative diving over sand and posidonia with high-level dives: the Don Pedro wreck, a 142-metre cargo ship sunk off the port of Ibiza and lying between 26 and 46 metres, is the largest diveable wreck in the Balearics and is reserved for advanced and technical divers. Add the marine reserves of Es Freus —between Ibiza and Formentera— and of the north-eastern Tagomago coast, where you can only dive with valid certification through centres authorised by the Balearic Government, plus the protected surroundings of Es Vedrà in the south-west, with its walls and caves. The optimal season runs from June to September, with warm water for much of the year. Centres in Sant Antoni (west), Santa Eulària (east) and Sant Josep (south) offer everything from try dives and PADI and SSI courses to wreck trips and freediving.
